You Can Make a Difference!

The Mission of Engeye Scholars is to support the educational initiative of the Engeye Health Clinic. Specifically, our purpose is to help meet the educational needs of children living in and around Ddegeya Village, Uganda. It is our hope to positively impact the lives of children who may not have the opportunity to seek an adequate education on their own. We will work to do this one village at a time. Please help support this cause and instill hope in the hearts and lives of those less fortunate. You can make a difference and provide an educational opportunity for a child for as little as $20.00 per month. Yes you can make a lasting positive change in a child’s life.

 

There are several ways you can Help!

• Sponsor a student (Become a Sponsor)

• Donate funds to the general fund or for a specific item like school supplies, the scholar program, a special project or a wish list item (Sponsor a Classroom and Youth Projects)

• Sponsor a classroom and send supplies for the classroom or make a donation to purchase supplies for a classroom (Sponsor a Classroom)

• Collect shoes and sandals and send to the village (Youth Projects)

• Collect gently used or new soccer gear or sports equipment and send it to the village (Youth Projects)

• Support the health clinic efforts (Engeye.org)

• Suggest a special project or support one (Contact Us)

How it Began!

The Engeye Scholars program was inspired by the courage and strength of Susan Nabukenya. Susan is a 14-year-old Ugandan girl who came to Boston this past summer for life-saving plastic surgery at Boston Shriners Hospital. Four years ago, Susan was burned from her chest to her toes when she stepped too close to a cooking fire and her kerosene-stained dress ignited. She had lived with burn contractures and open wounds since the fire and she was forced to drop out of school. She had lost all hope. Through Engeye and its supporters, Susan not only received life saving treatment but she returned to Uganda and was enrolled in school for the first time in four years. The friends and supporters she met during her stay in the United States have committed to paying for primary school education costs upon her return to Uganda. This education will provide Susan with additional hope for the future. This all important educational opportunity cost is minimal in comparison to the costs of education in the United States. For as little as $1,000.00 per year, Susan can enroll in a good school and have funds available to pay for her supplies and related expenses.

From Susan’s experience grew a desire to help other children in Susan’s village receive hope through education. Upon meeting Susan and John Kalule, who accompanied her on her journey to the United States, many of their new United States friends and supporters wanted to give other children in the village the gift of education.Other children, including John’s son Jeffrey, will now receive the gift of education through sponsorship.
