Primary Education Sponsored Students:

SusanSusan (16 years old): Susan was our first Engeye Scholar and the inspiration for the program. Susan is enrolled in the Sydney Paul Boarding Primary School. Her education and expenses are being sponsored and paid for by a group of families and individuals that she met during her visit to the United States. Susan has dreams of finishing school and becoming a health care professional.

 

 

 

NabumaNabuma Immaculate (10 years old): Nabuma Immaculate is enrolled in Bishop Ddungu School. She has six siblings. Nabuma Immaculate states that when she grows up she would like to work in health care, saving people.

 

 

 

 

JeffreyJeffrey (5 years old): Jeffrey is the son of John Kalule, the Engeye Health Clinic manager and co-founder. Jeffrey is enrolled in Nursery School. His education and expenses are being sponsored and paid for by a group of families and individuals, including one teenage boy. Jeffrey’s father met all these wonderful individuals and families during his visit to the United States.

 

 

 

FlaviaFlavia (10 years old): Flavia is enrolled in Sydney Paul Day Primary School. Her education and expenses are being sponsored and paid for by a group of families and individuals, including one teenage boy. During the recent visit with Flavia, she stated that she would like to be a teacher.

 

 

 

BenaBena (8 years old): Bena is enrolled in Sydney Paul Day Primary School. Her education and expenses are being sponsored a group of four, one family and three individuals, which includesone teenage boy. Bena lives with a guardian when she is not in school. She states that when she grows up she would like to work in the health care profession and save sick people.

 

 

 

JudeJude: Jude is enrolled in Primary Four at Sydney Paul Day Primary School. His education and expenses are being sponsored and paid for by Gary and Mary Anne Arnold of Ridgecrest, California. Jude's family is so grateful for his sponsorship.

 

 

 

 

WilburWilbur (10 years old): Wilbur is a new scholar and he started school in February of 2010 in Primary Five at Sydney Paul Day Primary School. He would like to go to school to be a pilot or a doctor.

 

 

 

 

JessicaJessica (8 years old): Jessica is Wilbur's younger sister and she was also recently sponsored and she started school in February of 2010 in Primary One at Sydney Paul Day Primary School. She and Wilbur are our only sibling group. Jessica would like to be a teacher.

 

 

 

 

WilliamWilliam (8 years old): William was recently sponsored by one individual and he started school in February of 2010 in Primary Two at Sydney Paul Day Primary. William was so excited to be able to go to boarding school this year.

 

 

 

 

 

EliasElias: Elias was recently sponsored and he will start school in February of 2010. He is the only boy in a family of four girls, so he was nicknamed "Boy." He would like to have an oppurtunity to become a pilot. He says the first passenger he will fly will be his mom. His mother is a single mother.

 

 

 

HarrietHarriet: Hariet was recently sponsored and she started school in February of 2010 in Primary Five at Sydney Paul Day Primary School. She has four brothers and two sisters and she has been responsible for looking after all of them. She was so excited about the oppurtunity to go to school. She says she will study hard and do well so that she can get a good job and take care of her father and siblings.

 

 

GyaviraGyavira (8 years old): Gyavira was recently sponsored by one family and he started school in February 2010 in Primary One at Sydney Paul Day Primary School. He is eight years old and the youngest of eight siblings. He would like to go to school and someday become a doctor.

 

 

 

 

ImmaculateImmaculate Nassiwa (10 years old): Immaculate was recently sponsored and started school in February of 2010 in Primary Three at Sydney Paul Day Primary School. She is ten years old and one of nine siblings. She described as being really smart and well behaved. She would like to be a teacher someday.

 

 

 

 

 

SadatSadat: Sadat started school in Primary One at the Sydney Paul Day Primary School. Sadat lives with a guardian when he is not in school. He is so grateful for the opportunity to go to boarding school.

Higher Education Sponsored Students

RichardRichard Ntwasi Dr. Sheryl Brown Dr. Sheryl Brown

Richard is currently completing his high school course work. He attends a Senior School and he has two years remaining until graduation. After graduation he would like to attend the Law Development Center in Kampala to obtain a degree in law and become a lawyer. Richard’s education is sponsored by Dr. Sheryl Brown, a second year family medicine resident with the Albany Medical Center Department of Family & Community Medicine. She traveled to Uganda and Ddegeya Village in February 2009 as part of the Engeye medical mission trip. While on this trip, Sheryl met Richard and learned that he was not able to complete his education because his family could no longer afford his tuition, she decided to sponsor him through the Engeye Scholars Program. Dr. Brown is looking forward to following Richard's progress as an Engeye Scholar.

Ronnie is working toward his Bachelor in Guidance and Counseling degree, a three-year program. Ronnie began in November of 2007 and is taking courses in psychology, human growth and development, counseling theories, communication skills, and computer study. Ronnie plans to become a mental health counselor. Ronnie is being sponsored by Dr. Joe Murley, one of the doctors who helped open the doors at Engeye.

HudsonHudson Anny SuAnny Su

Hudson began his advanced training degree in Guidance and Counseling, at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. This graduate certificate will not only allow Hudson to enter the field of psychology and enable him to work with troubled youth, one of his long-time dreams, but will also provide him the tools necessary to co-found a mental health center, adjacent to Engeye Clinic. Anny Su, one of Engeye's most generous and reliable partners, is sponsoring Hudson’s graduate school education.
